Hurling for Hope

Hurling For Hope is a group of friends, players, mentors and teammates from Ballyhaunis GAA who decided to pull together and organise a fundraising event to support some local charities. The group pledged to solo a sliotar 100km from the Mayo Roscommon Hospice in Castlebar to the Mayo Roscommon Hospice in Roscommon over four days. Over the past few months a number of GAA personalities and celebrities have come on board to offer support to the group. Scoil Iosa really got behind this fundraising initiative, hosting a Jersey Day and our Junior Infants did a sponsored walk to raise additional funds. Altogether it was a tremendous effort and Hurling for Hope members Keith Higgins (past pupil) and Frank Brown (organiser) came into the school to collect cheques amounting to a staggering €2500!!
Directly after the presentation the whole school marched down to the Square in Ballyhaunis to wave off the walkers on Day 3 of their ‘solo’ march. There was an incredible atmosphere where the entire community gathered and the children played a huge part in this with the releasing of balloons, their colours and cheers.
Well done to everyone involved!
